If you require VHF training as a beginner or as an upgrade to your existing certificate please book a place on a course as appropriate.

Beginners - Tuesday 31 January 2023 at 1900 Hrs in the club Committee Room.
Continuing Professional Development - Thursday 9 February 2023 at 1900 Hrs in club Committee Room.

There are limited spaces (capped at 10 per course) so book soon to guarantee a place. For those who are unsuccessful in getting on a course we hope to run another course in the future.

Note access to the committee room is via the door at the right hand side of the workshop by the industrial sliding door.

If your VHF Operator Certificate of Competence was issued before DSC (digital selective calling) radios became available for yachts and motorboats you probably will not have had training in the use of DSC.

Therefore it is wise to undertake some Continuing Professional Development (CPD). A club member who is an RYA qualified instructor has offered to provide training free of charge. Once you have successfully completed the training he will endorse your current certificate to show you have undertaken CPD in the operation of DSC radios.


The beginners course is for members who are new to VHF or have experience but no operators certificate. Members who already hold a certificate and wish to refresh their knowledge will be welcome to attend this evening. The beginners evening will provide members with a good knowledge base to progress to full certification.
